Zip Line in Cozumel? These are the options.

Wanting to ride a zip line in Cozumel, I researched and discovered that there are several of them to check out and ride. Ziplines are safe and a lot of fun, so I decided to write this article about them.

There are 3 options for places to zip line in Cozumel:

  • XTREM Adventure (at Chankanaab Adventure Beach Park)
    • With up to eleven ziplines in nine towers.
  • The Zip Line at Eco Parque Cuzam
  • Fly High Adventures Zip Line Park (check availability).
    • Ride up to 730 meters of a zip line in six towers.

There are several factors that people consider when choosing which zip line to go ride in Cozumel, like the location, the duration of the rides, meeting the minimum requirements for riding the zip line, safety, other fun activities nearby, etc.

First things first: What is a Zip Line?

“Zip Line: a cable suspended above an incline to which a pulley and harness are attached for a rider.”

Merriam-Webster

Here we have an example of the longest zip line in the world over the Ocean (1.8 kilometers long), where riders can reach speeds of up to 120 kilometers per hour during the ride:

“Historical evidence shows that ziplines were used in the Himalayas and Alps for multiple purposes including transportation. People living in these regions would hang ziplines to use for traversing dangerous areas. They also used ziplines to receive or send supplies from one place to another. Ziplines in these areas were used as an alternative transportation form to bridges because they were much quicker to build and use.”

The minimum requirements for riding a zip line in Cozumel are:

  • Minimum Age to Ride: 6 years old in XTREM Chankanaab and 8 years old in Eco Parque Cuzam and Fly High Adventures Zip Line Park
  • Maximum Weight: 250 lbs.
  • Pregnant women are not allowed to ride the zip lines.
  • If you have back, neck or shoulder injuries, you are not allowed to ride.
  • If you have a heart condition or high blood pressure, you are not allowed to ride.
  • Maximum waist size: 44 inches.
  • Long hair should be tied back.
  • Closed-toe shoes are required.
  • Shorts or long pants are recommended.
  • Also recommended: sunglasses, sunscreen, and insect repellant.

My recommendation for the best all-around zip line experience in Cozumel is the XTREM Chankanaab Adventure Beach Park:

I´m getting ready to ride the zip line!

The Chankanaab Adventure Beach Park is the most popular park in all of Cozumel, it has beautiful white sandy beaches, a spectacular coral reef for snorkeling, snuba and scuba, a Spa (to get a great massage, for example), a natural saltwater lagoon, a brand new attraction called The High Experience (have lunch, brunch, drinks or dinner on a table that is elevated to 45 meters high), great views, food, drink, etc. You can even swim with the Dolphins!

The Beach in Chankanaab

Within the Chankanaab Adventure Beach Park lies the XTREME Adventure Park. It not only includes seven zip lines mounted on 9 towers, but also several other activities (in case others in your party wouldn’t enjoy the zip line, such as a laser tag, a Sea Lion Show, and great reef for snorkeling, a Spa, and more).

Eco Parque Cuzam

Eco Parque Cuzam offers a smaller zip line, just two towers in which you can ride a zip line at a top height of 80 feet.

This park is worth visiting because it offers other activities also, such as a museum, a crocodile site, ATV´s, horseback riding, paintball, lagoons, a lighthouse, and most importantly, a totally virgin coast were turtles lay their eggs.

Fly High Adventures Zip Line Eco Park

This is a park completely dedicated to zip lines! They have a 2,400-foot zip line circuit in six platforms to enjoy.

You can take a very memorable ride flying through each different platform. Each line will allow you to fly over a different section of the park.

The staff is very kind and welcoming, they are highly trained in ziplining, and they make sure that each rider knows their equipment and safety rules and standards very well.

This park is part of the El Cid, La Ceiba Cozumel All-Inclusive Resort, so at the end of your zip line adventure, you can go and relax at their beautiful private beach club, where you can enjoy a refreshing free drink and for an extra charge, you could also have a beachside meal in one of their several restaurants.

Here is a brief video of the experience:

It´s important to check if this zip line park is open because as of October 2019 it was being renovated. The park´s phone number is +52 987 857 2975. El Cid’s Resort Phone number: +52 800 670 3277

Important things not to forget when you go zip lining in Cozumel

  • Be sure you are healthy enough to be able to ride:
    • If you’re not in good health, other than enjoying a day zip-lining, you could make matters even worse.
  • Know your weight in kilos:
    • In Cozumel, as in all of Mexico, we use the metric system, so weights are expressed in kilograms. It’s easier for the staff at the zip line sites to understand your weight in kilograms.
    • The conversion from pounds to kilos is the following: 1 pound = 0.45 kilos. Example: a 185-pound person weighs 83.9 kilograms.
  • Bring proper shoes (closed-toe shoes, no sandals or crocs).
  • Don’t forget: insect repellant, sunscreen, and sunglasses:
    • Being that you will be ziplining in and over the jungle in many cases, there will be insects such as mosquitoes that can make your day uncomfortable, a good repellant takes care of this minor issue.
    • Zip Lining in Cozumel is an outdoor activity, so a hat or cap, sunglasses, and a proper sunscreen are very much advised.
  • It´s better to wear loose-fitting clothes:
    • The zip line harness can get tight, so having loose-fitting clothes helps you be more comfortable when wearing it.
  • Look for the storage lockers:
    • All of the recommended places in this article offer storage lockers for rent. It´s important to empty your pockets before you zip line because it could very easily lose something during a ride.

Have fun ziplining and a great Cozumel Day!

I spend my time between the city of Puebla and the paradise-like island of Cozumel, in Mexico. An entrepreneur at heart, I own a construction company that has built more than 3,500 schools all over Mexico since 1998. I'm a partner in an online news organization that has a presence in 11 Spanish speaking countries. I'm also enthusiastically involved with several organizations that have to do with education, sustainable living, and the environment. Cozumel Day is my way of sharing my own experiences, tips and more online, about this wonderful place. I hope the information I share with you here is useful and entertaining.

Can I Take a Car to Cozumel?

This is a question that comes up frequently. Many people start their trips in Mexico (the mainland) in places other than Cozumel, and they have previously rented a car to travel through the Riviera Maya. Others, live in Mexico already and have their own car. So, being that Cozumel is an island, the obvious question […]
