Cozumel Activities for Seniors? There’s Plenty of Them!

In my research, I have found that information dedicated specifically to senior citizens and the activities they could do on the island, is neglected in the webpages with information about Cozumel. In this article, I’ll try to give an answer to this topic and offer several options of activities for seniors in Cozumel.

Senior citizens in Cozumel can enjoy a vast array of activities, such as:

  • A Day at a Spa.
  • The Chocolate, Tequila and Tacos Flavors of Mexico Tour.
  • Visiting El Pueblo del Maíz.
  • Spending a Day at the Beach (a public beach or a beach club).
  • Birdwatching.
  • A Tour in the Glass-Bottom Boat.
  • An Expedition Inside a Submarine.
  • A Catamaran Tour.
  • Playing Golf.
  • Mayan Ball Game & Mexican Fiesta with Buffet Lunch.

These are just some activities in Cozumel that can be senior-friendly, or adept to people with limited mobility. I will give a brief description of them in this article.

A Day at a Spa in Cozumel

A day at a Spa joined by a great massage can be as relaxing as it can get.

There are several great spas in Cozumel, but the ones I recommend the most are Sea Sense Spa (in the Mr. Sanchos Beach Club) and Spa del Sol Cozumel.

Both these spas have great ratings on review pages, they are clean, comfortable, and their staffs are always helpful, friendly and with great attitudes towards their costumers.

The Sea Sense Spa offers the added advantage of being in a beach club. A perfect place to be pampered!

As an example, the Sea Sense Spa offers these kinds of massages:

  • 1. RELAXING MASSAGE
  • 2. SWEDISH MASSAGE
  • 3. DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE
  • 4. REFLEXOLOGY FOOT MASSAGE
  • 5. NECK MASSAGE
  • 6. THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE
  • 7. TIRED LEGS
  • 8. FOUR-HAND MASSAGE
  • 9. COUPLES MASSAGE

As for prices (may vary), here´s an example of the prices for the relaxing massage at the Sea Sense Spa:

DURATION / PRICE
20 MIN 30.00 USD
30 MIN 45.00 USD
45 MIN 60.00 USD
60 MIN 80.00 USD

Playing Golf in Cozumel

Golf is a great sport suitable for seniors also! There is a great 18 hole Golf course in Cozumel, designed by the one and only Jack Nicklaus Design Group: The Cozumel Country Club.

You can book a package online for around $140 USD that includes:

  • 18-Hole Green Fee with shared cart
  • TaylorMade Clubs
  • Two sleeves of golf balls
  • Warm-up basket of range balls
  • Cozumel Country Club Souvenir

This offer is available for guests of nonmember hotels or cruise ship golfers.

Member hotels guests have even better packages and prices for this Golf course.

A Tour in the Glass-Bottom Boat

This is a great experience for both swimmers and non-swimmers! a very safe experience, where the crew on the boat is very friendly. You can have onboard drinks (water, sodas, and beers) and snacks.

This tour is for people of all ages, it’s very family-friendly.

It is walking distance from the Puerta Maya and International piers, and it’s a 5-minute taxi ride from the Punta Langosta pier.

Unfortunately, this tour is not suitable for wheelchair users, pregnant women, people with back and/or heart problems.

It is recommended that you bring swimwear (in case you want to snorkel in the reefs), hiking shoes, and cash.

Well organized, smooth ride, very safety conscious, close to cruise port, clean snorkel equipment, and very friendly.

5 Star review by Mario, a costumer from the United States

This boat tour lasts around 2 hours, and you will get to see three of the world-famous Cozumel reefs!

The cost of this experience is around $32.00 USD per person, and you can book it HERE.

Birdwatching in Cozumel

Birdwatching is one of the things Cozumel is better known for. The name of Cozumel itself means “Land of the Swallows”.

Cozumel has been described as a “birdwatcher’s paradise”. Birdwatchers or “birders” travel to Cozumel from all parts of the world.

The list of bird species you can find in Cozumel is huge, so much so, that I will write a specific article on the subject. As an example, here you can find a tale of a birder, from budgetbirders.com and all of what he saw in a few hours in Cozumel.

The price of birdwatching tours in Cozumel is around $ 110 USD, and there are several tour operators that offer such tours. The average birdwatching tour in Cozumel lasts around 5 hours. These tours are available year-round.

It is recommended that you are equipped with the following for your birdwatching tour:

  • Comfortable footwear for walking.
  • Hat and sun protection (preferably biodegradable lotion).
  • Snacks/drinks, or cash to buy some along the way.
  • Bug repellent. This is a must! Insects can be vicious while you are in the jungle.
  • Binoculars.
  • Camera.

The Cozumel Country Club offers a lighter version of a birdwatching tour. It lasts around 2 hours and is around $ 50 USD, and it includes breakfast. It’s totally worth it because the club earned the designation of “Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary from Audubon International”.

A Submarine Expedition in Cozumel

Only 1% of people in the world can say that they traveled inside a submarine. In Cozumel, you can make this a reality. If you’re a senior and can navigate a 7-step ladder, you’re in!

Cozumel is the only place in Mexico where you can find a submarine made for tourists. You will travel more than 100 feet (30 meters) below the surface of the sea. Also, you will get to see a sunken ship, the beauties of the world-famous Cozumel diving spots and even a 400-foot vertical drop known as The Wall.

Fun, Fun, Fun

What a one of a kind experience! Couldnt pass this up and so glad we didn’t. The shipwreck was especially neat. Highly recommend!

5 stars from Jenna Krusich

The duration of this experience is of about 2 hours, and the price starts at around $ 105 USD per person (kids 3-12: $67 USD), and you can book it HERE.

A Day at the Beach in Cozumel

Cozumel has some of the best white sand beaches in the world!

It’s a paradise-like island with plenty of options, both public and private (the beach clubs) when it comes to fantastic beaches.

To the west of the island is where the calmest watered beaches are. On the south and west part of the island, the waves are more intense and the beaches have fewer services.

For about $20 USD you can get a taxi from the farthest pier, almost at the Cozumel downtown and go to Palancar Beach. This is a tranquil beach with the most beautiful watercolors you can imagine. It’s a public beach, although there are a couple of restaurants and people renting umbrellas, towels, and palapas for your convenience.

I call Palancar Beach the best-kept secret in Cozumel. you will feel like you’re on a private beach. It’s known, but the amount of people going there is far less than it deserves. You won’t find any water sport except for snorkeling. You won’t be bothered with wave runners and such. It is a place truly to meditate, read a good book and have a great meal and drink.

Palancar Beach, in Cozumel

The beaches in Cozumel are seaweed/sargassum free, which has been an issue almost in all other Mexican beaches in the Caribbean.

If your budget allows it, you can also go to a great beach club called Playa Uvas. You can book an all-inclusive experience for around $ 105 USD per person, that includes:

  • Entrance fee to Playa Uvas
  • Snorkel gear
  • 35-minute snorkel tour
  • Marine Park fees
  • 30-minute massage
  • Lunch: adult choice of chicken or beef fajitas or fish fillet – child choice of club sandwich or hamburger per child
  • Open bar (soft drinks, juice, water bottle, beer, rum, tequila, margaritas, daiquiris)
  • Locker Rental (one per family)

If you forget sunscreen, you can purchase biodegradable sunscreen at Playa Uvas for around $ 13 USD.

You can book a day in Playa Uvas HERE.

Don’t forget to bring:

  • Comfortable clothes and shoes.
  • Sunscreen (biodegradable).
  • Sun hat.

El Pueblo del Maíz, Cozumel

This is like a trip to the past where the Mayans ruled this land. El Pueblo del Maíz is an immersive experience for all ages.

It’s a great opportunity to learn about the Mayan culture and traditions in a Mayan-like village.

El Pueblo del Maíz, Cozumel.

Can I Take a Car to Cozumel?

This is a question that comes up frequently. Many people start their trips in Mexico (the mainland) in places other than Cozumel, and they have previously rented a car to travel through the Riviera Maya. Others, live in Mexico already and have their own car. So, being that Cozumel is an island, the obvious question […]
